Our story begins over 40 years ago at our family weaving mill in Scandinavia, where the art of weaving has been passed down through generations.

After studying Interior Design design at FIT in New York City, Marjatta Rautionmaa took a bold chance and designed a small collection of rugs from her family’s weaving mill in Scandinavia. Bringing her first collection of samples to New York City, she received an incredibly warm welcome. Her very first client was the renowned Interior Designer Carlton Varney at Dorothy Draper & Co and from that partnership, Scandecor’s first major order—150 rugs for a hotel project in the Caribbean—was born.

Right after that first big order, in 1981, Marjatta officially founded Scandecor Co Inc., fueled by a vision that still guides us today: to bring authentically Scandinavian-made, modern, premium rugs and broadloom to the Interior Design and Architecture industry. Always crafted from the finest materials and made with exceptional, durable craftsmanship.

In 2022, Marjatta’s daughter, Alexandra, joined Scandecor, bringing a fresh perspective to the family business. After graduating from New York University where she studied business, Alexandra built her career with several notable home brands before embracing her family’s legacy.

Continuing the family legacy, in 2025, Marjatta’s daughter Rebekka joined Scandecor. After a decade of working as a Marketing Executive for notable Fashion brands in New York City and Miami, she was excited to join the family business. Together, they continue to push the boundaries of design and sustainability.

Our distinctive rugs and broadloom represent more than just designs—they are our legacy.

Today, Scandecor Rugs is renowned within the Interior Design and Architecture community for our contemporary aesthetics, expert craftsmanship, sustainable materials, carbon-neutral production and product durability.
